Nulon manufactures PEF (polyethylene foam) backing rods in reeled or bagged options.
Polyethylene Foam (PEF) backing rods are a low density expanded closed cell foam which does not absorb water or compress excessively. The product is non-toxic and resistant to sealants. Nulon manufacturers PEF backing roods in sizes from 6 mm to 60 mm. Larger sizes with an internal hole are also available.
They are intended for use as a backing material for a sealed joint in applications including,
• joints between precast concrete panels,
• saw cut joint in concrete floors,
• penetrations through walls and floors,
• Therman block around joinery including aluminium, timber and uPVC, and
• expansion joints between bricks and masonry.
Nulon is a New Zealand-owned and operated company with New Zealand-based manufacturing capacity. It supplies a range of PEF products in addition to PEF backing rods. PEF products are
categorised as LDPE (Low Density polyethylene) Number #4 and, if recycled, may be turned into other products such as plastic lumber, landscaping boards, roadside fence posts, floor tiles, and other products. For more information, refer to the Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme.
